It can also be a good time to take your shoes off and play some video games, and what's better than celebrating the holiday season in the games themselves? The number of games set during Christmas isn't incredibly long, but putting together this list, I discovered more than I previously knew about, including a few hidden gems that might be well worth a try if you're looking for a festive new experience.The list includes the most obvious examples--the first of which I've opened with below, those aforementioned hidden gems you may have missed over past Decembers, as well as some live-service options. For players who are looking for Christmas vibes in a live multiplayer setting, today's participating games are rather numerous, with several of the biggest games in the world redecorating with tinsel and garland--and maybe a snowy world--in each and every December. Others are frozen in that time and place forever, with stories that lean into the setting in ways that, I'd argue, are more fun when played around the same time period in real life.This list includes games new as of 2025 and those that are many years old. It even includes two superhero stories, because sometimes Christmas needs saving. Some of these games subvert the holiday spirit with activities such as assassinating villains, while others lean into the true spirit of the season--hot chocolate and home decorating. Here are some great games you can play this season to bring some holiday cheer to your console, PC, or mobile device. Dead Rising 4Arguably the quintessential Christmas game, Dead Rising 4 isn't the best Dead Rising game, but it is perhaps the only game where you can beat dozens of zombies with snowball guns and giant candy canes, so it has that going for it. The open world returns to a shopping mall and its surrounding area, now sporting all the bells and whistles of a post-apocalyptic holiday season. See at Fanatical Batman Arkham OriginsMost of us would want to be cozied up indoors with our families on Christmas Eve, but Batman doesn't really get to take days off. He spends one of his earlier career outings protecting Gotham from Black Mask, Firefly, and others who would do the city harm, Grinch-style. Snowy Gotham is the best Gotham. See at Fanatical The Escapists: Santa's SweatshopIn this free DLC for The Escapists, you play as an elf who is no longer willing to suffer the harsh conditions of Santa's toy shop, and have to escape the North Pole in the style of the base game's prison breakout. You'll need the base game to play it, but it's a great action-puzzler with a subversive sense of humor. See at Fanatical FortniteWhile the above examples (and most below examples) are more like single-player games that are forever set in the holiday season, live-service games do very well to redecorate and celebrate. Fortnite is my personal favorite, with its Winterfest annually giving out two free characters and a lot more to players, but other games, such as Final Fantasy XIV, Overwatch 2, Sea of Thieves, Destiny 2, Rocket League, and more also pack in a ton of seasonal content worth unwrapping. Arc RaidersArc Raiders has become the extraction shooter to rule them all. It offers a fun loot-based experience, several maps with alternating conditions, challenging NPCs, and gameplay that encourages players to cooperate with one another...before shooting each other in the back--those "damage raiders with this weapon" challenges certainly stir things up.Arc Raiders is a blast (heh) to play. Its latest update, called Cold Snap, bolsters this notion thanks to a new snowy weather condition that changes how players should respond to a given situation; when going topside, they'll have to contend with frostbite and limited visibility. There's also two seasonal events--Flickering Flames and the Candleberry Banquet--that feature unique quests and personal progression/unlockables. Both of them are available from now until January 13. Essentially, it's a good time to hop into Arc Raiders for new wintery fun. Animal Crossing: New HorizonsThe once and future champion of farm life sim video games is famous for its seasonal updates, with the real-time calendar taking into account the outside world in fun ways. Around this time of year in Animal Crossing, you'll find snow more likely to fall, presents in your mailbox, and arguably even more cheerful neighbors. Now if only Tom Nook could stop hounding me for late payments amid the holidays. See at Nintendo eShop PhasmophobiaPhasmophobia's Winter Jest event returns this year with more holiday (read: spooky) theme shenanigans for players to get into. This includes facing the Krampus versions of ghosts on select maps, searching for his hidden jack-in-the-box items to earn in-game rewards, and the ability to contribute towards new winter community goals. And if those elements weren't enough to entice players to return to Phasmo, the update also brings about double rewards. From now until December 23, players will be able to earn double XP and money on all investigations. Disney Dreamlight ValleyThe newest of the games on this list, Disney Dreamlight Valley is already proving to be a great virtual getaway for those looking for Christmas cheer. The recent Toy Story update also includes a winter makeover, with new recipes like gingerbread cookies, new clothing options like a wintry red dress, and new decor like a lovely fireplace decked out in festive stockings and lights. See at Steam Saints Row 4 - How The Saints Save ChristmasThe Saints Row series has gone to some strange places in its time, but one of the most memorable--albeit still rather unhinged--is when the gang goes into a virtual world to save Christmas. As always, the punchlines are lower-hanging than faulty mistletoe, but if you're into the series, this mission pack DLC redecorates the Saints' world in all the ways you'd hope for, from a snowy city to some ridiculous gingerbread enemies. See at Fanatical Hitman - Holiday HoardersHitman became a live-service with its World of Assassination trilogy starting in 2016, and one of the best recurring features is its Holiday Hoarders mission, which sees you taking out a pair of enemies that are very obvious allusions to Home Alone's Harry and Marv. Dressing up as Santa is a long-standing Hitman tradition, and this free content pack is today as traditional as Mariah Carey's Christmas album. See at Fanatical PeakNot to be outdone by the other games on this list, Peak also got a holiday based update. This includes the visual and gameplay changes. The airport lobby, for instance, has been adorned with festive decorations.All of Peak's biomes (sans Caldera) have been covered in snow. This winter backdrop doesn't necessarily hinder your ability to climb. It does, however, allow you to make snowballs...which, when thrown at friends, affects their ability to climb. It's all in good fun though; who doesn't enjoy watching someone tumbling down the side of a mountain in Peak? It's part of the game's appeal. Sam And Max Save The WorldBefore it made a name for itself with games like The Walking Dead and its Bruce-centric Batman series, Telltale Games was doing the cartoonish point-and-click series Sam and Max. In the first episode of its recently remastered second season, the titular duo goes to the North Pole to resolve a mystery involving elves, possession, and the big guy in red himself. See at Steam Spider-Man: Miles MoralesSpider-Man: Miles Morales plays like a mini-sequel to 2018's award-winner and still includes all the (jingle) bells and whistles of a Christmas-set game. Now starring Miles as he's getting to grips with his role as Spider-Man, the entire game takes place during the holiday season, so New York City is frosty, decorated, and perfectly prepared for the Christmas season. See at Fanatical The DivisionPerhaps the darkest entry on this list, the original loot shooter from Ubisoft focuses on a terrorist attack on Black Friday. That means the post-apocalyptic squad-based shooter unfolds over the weeks leading up to Christmas, as the world is left frozen in time waiting for a holiday season that will never really arrive, but also awkwardly isn't really going away. It's not cute, but it's somehow still festive in its own way. See at Fanatical Honorable Mentions: Batman Returns (SNES)The SNES version of Batman Returns is an awesome beat'em up. It features good sound design, great graphics, and fun combat. There are even a few difficulty options for players looking for an easier/more difficult experience. But the best part of Batman Returns (for the sake of this list) is that it takes place during the holiday season.Clowns are frequently roughed up in front of stores with Christmas trees in their windows, organ grinders are body slammed on snow covered streets, and jugglers are dispatched on icy rooftops. Essentially, Batman is forced to contend with these circus themed goons across a wintery Gotham. And that's to say nothing of the abandoned Arctic World zoo attraction, which houses the final confrontation with the Penguin. Honorable Mentions: Die Hard TrilogyNo matter what anyone says, Die Hard is a Christmas-themed film. And to that extent, so are the games it inspired. So it shouldn't come to anyone's surprise that we've included Die Hard Trilogy--a collection of action games based on the first three films--in our "games set during Christmas" list.What's great about this bundle is that each game offers a different experience. Die Hard and Die Hard 2: Die Harder are entertaining as a third person and on rails-shooter, respectively. And while Die Hard with a Vengeance doesn't take place during the holiday, it does offer yet another way to play; it's basically a bonus game to play after you've dispatched your last terrorist in the Nakatomi Plaza or at Dulles Airport.

A last-minute decision by CBS News chief Bari Weiss to ”spike” a “60 Minutes” segment that was expected to be critical of the Donald Trump administration was hammered on MS NOW on Monday morning, with the entire ‘Morning Joe” panel expressing a mixture of disgust and alarm.Hours before the heavily promoted segment on migrants who were yanked off the streets by ICE agents and then unceremoniously shipped to a prison in El Salvador, known for brutality and horrific conditions, was to air, CBS announced it would be postponed.Later in the day, Sharyn Alfonsi, the veteran “60 Minutes” correspondent who created the report, sent a note to her colleagues, pointing the finger at the controversial Weiss, who critics say got her job — despite a lack of qualifications — by becoming a conservative darling criticizing “cancel culture.”According to Alfonsi, ”Our story was screened five times and cleared by both CBS attorneys and Standards and Practices. It is factually correct. In my view, pulling it now, after every rigorous internal check has been met, is not an editorial decision, it is a political one.”She also added that Weiss wanted the producers to get comments from Trump advisor Stephen Miller and that the story should not run until the White House or the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) provided comments. However, as Alfonsi wrote, the Trump administration had been asked for comment and refused to respond.That led the 60 Minutes journalist to write, “If the standard for airing a story becomes ‘the government must agree to be interviewed,’ then the government effectively gains control over the 60 Minutes broadcast. Holding stories that aren’t ready for whatever reason — that they lack sufficient context, say, or that they are missing critical voices — happens every day in every newsroom.
