The Jacksonville Jaguars helped the New England Patriots on Sunday... sort of.By beating the No. 1 seed Denver Broncos, the Jaguars gave New England a chance to boost its odds of earning a first-round bye if it wins its Sunday Night Football showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. A loss, however, would still hurt the Patriots in the AFC standings since Jacksonville would then own the same record (11-4).As for the battle for the AFC East, the Patriots still have the advantage over the Buffalo Bills despite last week’s crushing loss. Buffalo put some pressure on New England, however, with its win over Cleveland on Sunday. Here’s a full rundown of the Patriots’ No. 1 seed and AFC East scenarios heading into Sunday Night Football.Current AFC standingsHere’s a look at the AFC standings and the remaining schedules of the teams still in the playoff hunt. Every team not on this list has been eliminated from postseason contention.Denver Broncos (12-3, AFC West leader)New England Patriots (11-3, AFC East leader)Jacksonville Jaguars (11-4, AFC South leader)Pittsburgh Steelers (8-6, AFC North leader)Los Angeles Chargers (11-4, First wild card)Buffalo Bills (11-4, Second wild card)Houston Texans (10-5, Third wild card)Indianapolis Colts (8-6)Baltimore Ravens (7-7)MORE PATRIOTSNew England Patriots2 hours agoLive updates: Patriots battle Ravens needing win to clinch playoff spotPhil PerryDec 17Will Ravens replicate what Bills did to stifle Maye, Pats offense?Phil PerryDec 17Drake Maye on MVP odds: I'd rather win Super Bowls than personal awardsRace for seeding in the AFCThe Jacksonville Jaguars took down the No. 1 seed Denver Broncos on Sunday, but that doesn’t necessarily boost the New England Patriots’ odds of earning the top spot in the AFC.If the Patriots lose to the Ravens, the Jaguars will overtake them for the No. 2 seed. If Jacksonville finishes with a better record than New England, it will earn the higher seed due to a better conference record. To earn the No. 1 seed, New England would then need...To win its final two games against the New York Jets and Miami DolphinsDenver to lose out.Jacksonville to lose at least one game.If the Pats win in Baltimore, their No. 1 seed odds will skyrocket. They would need to win out and for Denver to lose one more game. The Broncos own the tiebreaker due to their better record against common opponents.Either way, Patriots fans hoping for a first-round bye will be rooting hard against the Broncos over the final two weeks of the regular season. Denver’s last two games are against the Kansas City Chiefs and Los Angeles Chargers, while Jacksonville’s are against the Indianapolis Colts and Tennessee Titans.Race for the AFC EastEarning the AFC’s top seed won’t be an easy task for New England, but how about the division? The Buffalo Bills (11-4), fresh off a wild comeback win over the Patriots, took down the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. The Patriots will still be favored to win the AFC East regardless of Sunday’s result vs. the Ravens, though a loss would make matters slightly more complicated. The Pats would win the division if they win out, Buffalo loses out, or if they split their final two games and the Bills fall to the Jets in Week 18. As of Sunday, New England owns the tiebreaker against Buffalo. If the Patriots and Bills finish the season with the same record, the tiebreakers are as follows:Head-to-head record (Patriots 1, Bills 1)Record in division games (Patriots: 3-1; Bills 3-2)Record in games vs. common opponents (Patriots: 8-1; Bills 9-2)Current playoff matchupsIf the season ended today, the No. 2 seed Patriots would meet the No. 7 Houston Texans in the Wild Card round. That would be a scary matchup for New England against arguably the best defense in the NFL.No. 1 Broncos: BYENo. 2 Patriots vs. No. 7 Houston TexansNo. 3 Jaguars vs. No. 6 BillsNo. 4 Steelers vs. No. 5 ChargersThis story uses functionality that may not work in our app. Click here to open the story in your web browser.

Camdyn Glover used to be a quiet conservative. She worried what her teachers would think or if she would lose friends over her convictions. But she said something changed when Charlie Kirk was assassinated in September, and she started crying in her classroom at Indiana University while other students cheered and clapped.“We can’t be silenced,” Glover decided. Now she’s visiting Phoenix with her parents and brothers for this year’s Turning Point USA conference, the first to take place since Kirk’s death. Although the organization became a political phenomenon with its masculine appeals to college men, it’s also been expanding outreach to young women like Glover. The shift is poised to accelerate now that Turning Point is led by Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, who has embraced her new role at the helm of a conservative juggernaut with chapters across the country.US & WorldElections19 hours agoErika Kirk endorses JD Vance for president in 2028Trump administrationDec 18Turning Point youth conference begins in Phoenix without founder Charlie KirkCrime and CourtsDec 11Accused Charlie Kirk killer makes 1st in-person court appearance as judge weighs media accessIf successful, the organization that helped return President Donald Trump to the White House could narrow a gender divide that has been a persistent challenge for Republicans. Turning Point offers a blend of traditional values, such as encouraging women to prioritize marriage over careers, and health trends pushed by online influencers. Glover, 18, said discovering Turning Point in high school gave her an appreciation for dialogue when she felt like an outcast for her beliefs, such as being anti-abortion. At her first conference, she feels like she’s found a political and cultural home for herself. “They want to promote a strong independent woman who does hold these values and can go stand up for herself,” she said. “But it’s also OK to do it in heels, put some makeup on, wear a dress.”‘If Erika can do it, I can do it’One of Glover’s classmates, Stella Ross, said she stumbled upon Charlie Kirk on TikTok in the months before the last presidential election. She already felt like her perspectives were being treated differently on campus and thought she was receiving unfairly low grades in her political science classes. A devout Catholic, Ross said she was inspired by how Charlie Kirk wasn’t afraid to weave his evangelical faith into his political arguments. She also noticed how many women posted comments of appreciation on Erika Kirk’s videos, and she joined Indiana University’s Turning Point chapter in the same month that Trump won his comeback campaign.“I was like, wow, if Erika can do it, I can do it,” Ross said. Ross has career aspirations of her own — she interns with Indiana’s Republican Party and aspires to be a press secretary for a governor or president. But she hopes to have flexibility in her job to be fully present with her children and believes that a traditional nuclear structure — man, woman and their children — is “God’s plan.”When she thinks of Erika Kirk, “it’s really cool to see that she can live out that balance and it makes me feel like that could be a more realistic future for me because I’m seeing it firsthand.” A new messenger Erika Kirk often appeared alongside with her husband at Turning Point events. A former beauty pageant winner who has worked as a model, actress and casting director, she also founded a Christian clothing line and a ministry that teaches about the Bible. In a recent interview with The New York Times, she said she had fully bought into “boss babe” culture before Charlie showed her a “healthier” perspective on life. Now she leads the multimillion-dollar organization, which she said at a memorial for her husband would be made “10 times greater through the power of his memory.”The political gap between young men and women has been growing for years, according to a recent Gallup analysis. Not only have women under 30 become more likely to identify as ideologically liberal, they’ve also embraced liberal views on issues such as abortion, the environment and gun laws. The schism was clearly apparent in the last presidential election, where 57% of male voters under 30 supported Trump, compared to only 41% of women under 30, according to AP VoteCast. Turning Point has been working to change that, hosting events like the Young Women’s Leadership Summit and urging attendees to embrace traditional family values and gender roles. Charlie Kirk said earlier this year that if a young woman’s priority is to find a husband, she should go to college for a “MRS degree.” Matthew Boedy, a professor of rhetoric at University of North Georgia, said Erika Kirk could be a more effective messenger because she was focused on her career before meeting her husband.“I do think her story resonates more because she tried it out and can tell them it is not for them,” he said. Some conservative women are turned off by this approach. Raquel Debono, an influencer who lives in New York City, described the event as a “Stepford wives conference,” featuring women in pink floral dresses. She said Turning Point’s emphasis on being traditional wives “leaves out a lot of women who work,” she said, “and I think they’re going to lose all those voters, honestly, in the next election cycle if they keep it up.”Debono founded her own organization, Make America Hot Again, where she throws parties intended to make voters feel welcomed into the conservative movement and allow them to get to know people who share their politics. ‘Big time’ growth for some chapters Aubree Hudson had been president of Turning Point’s chapter at Brigham Young University for only two weeks when she visited nearby Utah Valley University for an event with Charlie Kirk. She said she was standing only about six feet away when he was fatally shot. She ran to find her husband, who was at the back of the crowd, and they fled to her car. Hudson, 22, is from a rural farm town in southwestern Colorado. Her conservative convictions are rooted in her family’s faith and patriotism. A copy of the U.S. Constitution hangs in her parents’ home, and her father taught her to value God, family and country, in that order. Her mother stayed at home, telling her children that “you guys are my career.”Since Kirk’s assassination, Hudson said the number of people — particularly women — getting involved with the organization jumped “big time.” Emma Paskett, 18, is one of them. She was planning to attend the Utah Valley University event after one of her classes, but Kirk was shot before she made it there.Although she wasn’t very familiar with Turning Point before that point, Paskett said she started watching videos of Kirk later that night.Paskett considers Erika Kirk to be a “one in a million” role model, and her role as a leader was a driving factor in signing up. “That’s exactly what I want to be like,” she said._____ Associated Press writer Amelia Thomson-DeVeaux contributed to this report from Washington.

One December evening, Kayla Manigault, a sixth-grade teacher in Baltimore, was typing up her lesson plans when she glanced at the school year on her template and froze. Next year: 2026-2027. She screamed — so loudly that her boyfriend, also a teacher, came running. Was she hurt? Had she received bad news? Sort of.Manigault had just realized that a viral classroom chant was about to dominate the incoming calendar.“When I told him, he looked at me like, ‘Noooo,’ and we both burst out laughing,” she tells TODAY.comTrending NewsOct 29You won't believe Dictionary.com's Word of the Year—but your kids willInternetOct 14Why teachers are banning the slang '67'Six-Seven, Dictionary.com’s 2025 Word of the Year, is often accompanied by a double-hand gesture, the kind you might use to indicate you’re weighing two options. The slang doesn’t have a defined meaning, it’s more about the fun, the rhythm and the chaos it inspires.Thinking others might appreciate the humor, Manigault shared a playful warning on Instagram, captioning it, “God help us all.” The post went viral overnight, drawing a flood of sympathetic groans from fellow teachers and parents.“I am genuinely sorry for you educators. My condolences during this hard time.”“My son’s birthday is June 7th... 6/7. Please respect my privacy during this hard time.”“I banned 6,7 so they started saying 6,9 and now I’m begging for 6,7 back.”“Replying back ‘8 9’ apparently irks the youths and shuts it down. It’ll get old when the “old people” ‘get in on it.'”Though the slang “Six-Seven” has left some educators exasperated, with teachers banning the term and disciplining students who use it, Manigault finds the trend endearing. While she admits the nonstop chanting can be grating, she also sees it as a rare source of joy for students who are juggling multiple classes, big emotions and challenges at home.“I want to celebrate that,” she tells TODAY. “Sure it’s repetitive, but it’s harmless fun.
