At a Trader Joe’s in Pikesville, Maryland, there’s a surrealist mural above the Creamy Garlic Cucumber Tzatziki Dip and Unexpected Cheddar Cheese. It features a pear wearing a sweater depicting a house in the same picture, and it’s dedicated to a local talent — a knitter named Sam Barsky.Barsky, who has been a longtime customer at that Trader Joe’s, is known on social media for creating sweaters for himself based on landmarks, Jewish holidays, landscapes and other points of interest, often traveling to those locations for a very meta photo opp.Trader Joe’s did not immediately respond to TODAY.com’s request for comment on the mural, and the Pikesville store manager couldn’t reveal who painted it or when it was painted, but an associate says it’s been there for at least a year.Previously, a representative for the grocery chain told TODAY.com that every neighborhood store chooses its own artwork. For one location that opened in Harlem, New York, in 2024, nearly all of the art in-store was created by crew members, which is also likely the case with the one dedicated to Barsky.“There are some people who work at that Trader Joe’s and they’re fans of mine, so they know me personally,” Barsky, who has been knitting for over 26 years, tells TODAY.com. “After they were done, I got tipped off about it.”The Pikesville location is covered in art depicting local historical figures like Babe Ruth, Billie Holiday and Edgar Allen Poe, as well as Baltimore landmarks like the Inner Harbor. And with this mural, Barsky has now been cemented in Trader Joe’s history as a living legend.Barsky appreciates the attention on his craft, which has led him to show at the American Visionary Museum and the Renwick Gallery. He says he “never imagined” something like a mural would be created in his honor.“I’ve enjoyed all the travels that I’ve done over the years,” Barksy says, adding that knitting has opened so many doors for him. “I had no idea when I started it would define my life.”This story first appeared on TODAY.com. The withdrawal by Hong Kong's largest health and beauty chain comes as parent DFI trims its money-losing assets, and follows a similar departure this year by peer Sa Sa InternationalKey Takeaways:Mannings is closing all of its Mainland Chinese online and offline stores, ending a 21-year foray in the marketA similar move by rival Sa Sa International in June leaves CK Hutchison's AS Watson as the sole major Hong Kong retailer still operating in China's health and beauty segmentMore than a century after its founding as a dairy farm operator in Hong Kong, DFI Retail Group Holdings Ltd. (D01.SI) has been busy trimming assets across its 10,000-strong retail network in Asia as it tries to make its sprawling empire more efficient. But it was the company's recent decision to call it quits in Mainland China that caught everyone's attention, making it the latest foreign retailer to withdraw from the market. The decision wasn't a huge surprise for company watchers. Between 2023 and 2024 the company closed 92 of its Mainland outlets, leaving only 16 at the start of the year. Even so, the Dec. 17 announcement on the Mannings China WeChat channel still came as a surprise. The post said Mannings would shutter its remaining Mainland operations by mid-January, leaving only an asset-light cross-border business allowing Mainland customers to buy from its Hong Kong stores. The move made Mannings the second of Hong Kong's "big three" personal care and beauty retailers to call it quits in China, following a similar shuttering of its Mainland brick-and-mortar presence by Sa Sa International (0178.HK), operator of the Sasa chain, in April. That leaves just Watsons as the sole representative of that trio still operating offline stores on the Mainland.Mannings opened its first Mainland Chinese store in Guangzhou in October 2004, and had over 200 stores in the market at its height in 2011. But its expansion slowed after 2015, and its parent said it was reassessing the business as early as 2018. DFI hinted at the China exit in its annual report for 2024, saying declining revenues of Mannings China as more local consumers shopped online would involve the closure ...Full story available on Benzinga.com

The Jacksonville Jaguars helped the New England Patriots on Sunday... sort of.By beating the No. 1 seed Denver Broncos, the Jaguars gave New England a chance to boost its odds of earning a first-round bye if it wins its Sunday Night Football showdown with the Baltimore Ravens. A loss, however, would still hurt the Patriots in the AFC standings since Jacksonville would then own the same record (11-4).As for the battle for the AFC East, the Patriots still have the advantage over the Buffalo Bills despite last week’s crushing loss. The Patriots will still be favored to win the AFC East regardless of Sunday’s result vs. the Ravens, though a loss would make matters slightly more complicated. The Pats would win the division if they win out, Buffalo loses out, or if they split their final two games and the Bills fall to the Jets in Week 18.
